UPDATED: Finnair Industrial Action Ends

21st October 2006 The airline operated its first long-haul flight to Bangkok on Friday evening and plans to operate other Asian flights from Helsinki and to New York on Saturday.

Finnair is hoping to resume full European and domestic schedules by tonight (Saturday).

A strike by Finnair cabin crews is continuing for a second day, grounding most of the airline's international flights. The strike, by more than 1,500 cabin staff, began on Thursday with staff protesting against Finnair's plans to recruit personnel through its Estonian subsidiary, Aero, at lower rates than for Finnair cabin staff.

The airline are again operating an emergency service between London and Helsinki but there will be no Finnair long-haul connecting flights via Helsinki to Asia or the US on 20 October, 2006.

Finnair have advised the TD Travel Group of an illegal strike of the Finnish flight attendants' union. The strike began this morning (Thursday 19 October) at 4am Finnish time.

Finnair will be able to operate some London - Helsinki flights during the strike action.

AY836 19 OCT from London to Helsinki will operate as normal at 07.30 local hours.

AY831 19 OCT from Helsinki to London will be replaced by AY4831 and is scheduled as follows:

HEL 08.00 - 09.10 LON

AY832 19 OCT from London to Helsinki will be replaced by AY4832 and is scheduled as follows:

LON 10.10 - 17.10 HEL (flight is operated via Paris)

The number of flights will be increased where possible. Additional capacity for scheduled flights is being looked into. Smaller aircraft are planned to be operated to Brussels, Stockholm and Tallinn. No long-haul flights to Asia or the US will be operated. Domestic destinations include at least Oulu, Kuopio and Tampere.

Finnair regrets the inconvenience to customers that the illegal strike is causing.

Finnair will be flexible with rebookings of your flights.
