SUMMARY
* We advise against all but essential travel to Nepal during the current period of enhanced tension as there is a serious risk of being caught up in violence on the streets. British nationals already in Nepal should decide whether their presence there is essential. We will keep this advice under close review.
* The political situation in Nepal remains tense and unpredictable. Levels of violence remain high across the country. Despite bans and curfews, large scale demonstrations have taken place across Nepal since 6 April 2006, many of which have turned violent. A number of people have been killed and many have been injured (see Political Situation section below).
