TD Sport Assist the Great Britain Armed Forces Rugby League Team

24th April 2006 The Great Britain Armed Forces Rugby League will take its next major leap forward with an inaugural tour to Australia from April 16 until May 2 and TD Sport and Travel will be on hand to help.

TD Sport, the dedicated sports travel division of the TD Travel Group will handle the travel arrangements for entire the British squad.

The squad is made up of players and backroom staff from the Army, Navy and RAF and the tourists will play three high profile matches in and around Sydney.

The opening fixture will be against the Australian-based Portuguese national side at Henson Park, Eastern Suburbs on April 21 (Kick off 19.30hrs); the second fixture will be the feature game of the tour against the Australian Armed Forces, appropriately on ANZAC Day, April 25 in Aussie Stadium (Kick off 13.00hrs) and the third and final match will be against the New South Wales Combined Services team at Campbelltown Stadium on April 28, (Kick off 17.15hrs).

Gavin Wightman, Manager of TD Sport and Travel, said: “We are proud to be associated with the Combined Forces Lion Rugby League team.

“The Lions have beaten both the French and Australian services teams in this country and now we’re looking forward to getting them over to take on the Australians on their own territory.”

Petty Officer Clive Mason, secretary of the Combined Forces Rugby League and the Tour Manager, said: “We’re really excited about the prospect of touring Australia. It’s a great development for services Rugby League. “

Important financial support for the Great Britain Armed Services tour of Australia has been forthcoming from the Forces Sports Lotteries and Sports Boards and the commercial sector. The tour has been backed by blue chip organisations such including TD Sport and Travel, Gillette and Babcock Engineering.
