Suvarnabhumi - Bangkok's New Airport Officially Opens

28th September 2006 Despite the recent political upheavals, Bangkok's new 4 billion USD airport, Suvarnabhumi, opened for business today (28th September).

The futuristic airport which boasts the world's largest passenger terminal, the world's largest hangar, and world's tallest control tower officially opened on schedule albeit with some minor issues.

The move from Don Muang airport to Suvarnabhumi involved shifting 1.8 million pieces of equipment, much of it in the space of a few hours, across Bangkok, is being billed as one of the largest logistical operations in aviation history.
