Sterling Airways Bankruptcy Leaves Thousands Stranded

29th October 2008 Sterling Airways, the Icelandic-owned low cost carrier, has today (29th October 2008) filed for bankruptcy blaming the Icelandic financial crisis for its decline. Sterling has cancelled all flights, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at London Gatwick and thousands stranded across Europe.

The airline flies from Gatwick to Copenhagen, Stockholm and other Scandinavian cities.

According to a statement on their website, "Customers who have directly purchased their tickets on Sterling’s website will unfortunately not be refunded neither will their return flights. You therefore have to book your return flights with another airline company.

If you have paid for a flight by credit card, we advise you to contact your bank or credit card company to ask for a possible refund."
