German Air Traffic Control Threaten World Cup Strike Action

27th March 2006 Germany's 1,700 air traffic controllers have threatened to strike during the 2006 World Cup, a move which could ground tens of thousands travellers.

The controllers union, GdF, is resisting a government bill which they believe would lower the high air traffic control standards at German airports.

GdF sees little chance to avoid a strike following recent talks with the German Transport Ministry.
