FCO: Volcanic ash cloud: Europe flight disruption

25th May 2011 The UK Foreign Office have released the following update:

Some flights have been cancelled on Wednesday 25 May as volcanic ash from Iceland heads towards Northern Europe.

Although the eruption appears to be subsiding, airborne ash could still result in airspace restrictions. Passengers are still advised to remain in close contact with their airlines and travel agents for the most up to date news on the status of their flights and bookings, which may be subject to short notice timetable changes.

The status of flights as at 1645 on Wednesday 25 May is:


  • British Airways advise customers to check the status of their flights online. See BA website




  • KLM flights are currently operating as scheduled on Wednesday 25 May. See KLM website



  • Loganair has cancelled some flights to Edinburgh on Wednesday 25 May. The airline flies to Scottish and English airports. See Loganair website for full details




  • Eastern Airways has cancelled 3 flights (Durham Tees Valley to Southampton, Humberside to Aberdeen and East Midlands to Aberdeen) on Wednesday 25 May. See Eastern airways


  • EasyJet has cancelled some flights to and from Hamburg, Copenhagen, Berlin, Nice, Athens, Geneva, Sardinia and Liverpool on Wednesday 25 May. The airline recommends anyone flying from the following airports on 25 May should check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport: Amsterdam, Dortmund, Berlin, Copenhagen and Hamburg. See Easyjet website



  • BMI has cancelled flights to and from Hanover and Berlin on Wednesday 25 May

  • Emirates has cancelled flights between Dubai and Hamburg on Wednesday 25 May.

Iceland's Keflavik airport is open and is expected to remain so. A list of flights to and from Keflavik is available on the airport's website - Keflavik International Airport
