FCO: Foreign Office updates travel advice to Sudan
24th May 2011 The UK Foreign Office have released the following update:We advise against all travel to the following parts of Sudan: the Red Sea State border with Eritrea; within 40km inside South Sudan’s southern border; the whole of Darfur and the Abyei region.
In light of recent violence in the Abyei region of Sudan, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its travel advice to Sudan, and now advises against all travel to the Abyei region. Given recent events in Abyei, the security situation in the area is volatile and unstable, with thousands of civilians fleeing Abyei and the surrounding area.
We also advise against all travel to all three Darfur states (North Darfur, West Darfur and South Darfur), and the Red Sea State border with Eritrea, within 40km inside of Southern Sudan’s borders.
We also advise against all but essential travel to other specific parts of Sudan.
