bmi to cancel Heathrow - Glasgow service
1st February 2011 BMI is cancelling its service between Glasgow and Heathrow blaming a rise in domestic passenger fees - and threatening jobs. The Glasgow to Heathrow operation, which runs seven times a day, will be scrapped from March 27.
BMI said it will scrap the route, one of only two airlines running between the two airports daily, after BAA increased domestic passenger charges from £13 to £20.
The company said the increased fees will make the already loss-making route "unsustainable".
The decision will leave British Airways as the only carrier offering direct flights between Glasgow and London.
