BA Head Towards 100% Self Service Check-In
22nd March 2006 British Airways is to introduce a number of changes across its UK airports over the next two years ahead of its move into Heathrow’s Terminal 5 in 2008.British Airways will introduce changes to check-in, baggage handling, on-board seating allocation, airport lounges and aircraft boarding.
The first change is to be launched from April 25, when the airline introduces across-the-board self-service check-in for customers travelling on UK domestic flights. From this date, the only way to check-in will be on ba.com or at an airport kiosk.
Conventional check-in desks will be converted to ‘fast bag drop’ desks, for customers with luggage to check-in, and dedicated staff will be on hand to help customers at the kiosks during the initial changeover period.
Checking in on ba.com will permit you to print a boarding pass direct to your home or office printer up to 24 hours before the flight. In this case, you may proceed immediately to the boarding gate on arrival at the airport.
These new developments follow announcements earlier this month where BA confirmed it is to close its 17-strong chain of high-street Travel Shops and its Worldlink corporate travel agency at Heathrow, with the loss of 300 jobs. It is also closing its Belfast call centre, where a further 100 jobs will be lost. All the closures will be complete by August.
