Air Travel Duty Increase

7th December 2006 In a move that is expected to raise one billion pounds a year, Chancellor Gordon Brown has doubled airport dearture tax [APD].

From 1 February airport departure tax is to increase from GBP5 to GBP10 for economy-class passengers taking domestic and European short-haul flights. On long-haul flights, the duty is to rise from GBP20 to GBP40.

Passengers travelling in business and first class will have to pay GBP40 for short-haul flights and GBP80 for long-haul flights.

Passengers who already have tickets issued travelling after 01 Feb will be required to pay the additional tax at departure.
