UPDATED: Exeter Airport Strike Cancelled

19th July 2006 According to reports on the BBC, the planned strike action by firefighters at Exeter Airport has been cancelled.

Members of the Unison union had been planning several weeks of industrial action over pay, starting on Thursday, 20th July. But following talks with the conciliation service ACAS both sides are now confident an agreement can be reached.

Following the results of a ballot by their members in the Exeter International Airport Fire Department, UNISON has announced that strike action will take place at Exeter Airport.

The 44 union firefighters want a pay rise from £18,659pa to £23,101.

The strike action is planned for Thursday 20 July from 7am until midday with further strikes planned for the mornings of the Saturday 22, Monday 24 and Wednesday 26.

A further day of strike action may take place at Exeter on Saturday 29 and 31 July then August 1 and 3.

This action may disrupt the travel plans of passengers.

Management at Exeter Airport have said that unless advised otherwise, passengers should plan to check-in at the time stipulated on their booking arrangements, irrespective of any action on the day of the flight.
