Beijing flights to be delayed on 1st October
21st September 2009 Flights out of Beijing will be delayed on October 1 as part of ramped-up security aimed at ensuring smooth celebrations for communist China's 60th birthday, state media reported on Monday.All outbound flights from the city's main airport will be "postponed" from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the Global Times newspaper said, without saying whether incoming flights would also be affected.
China is planning a military parade, song and dance performances, and fireworks around Beijing's Tiananmen Square on October 1.
Authorities implemented a similar airport shutdown last year during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
