First strike hits new Alitalia
19th January 2009 Italy's newly-privatised Alitalia is facing its first official strike less than a week after its relaunch.The four-hour strike called by the SDL union began at 0900 GMT.
It was called to protest against new hiring policies at the new Italian carrier and uncertainty over the airline's future.
The carrier has been taken over by a group of prominent Italian business leaders which formed an alliance with Air France-KLM, which has a 25% stake.
