Budapest airport staff on indefinite strike

10th December 2008 Workers at Budapest Airport, Hungary's biggest international terminal, will launch an indefinite strike from today (Wednesday) over demands for improved conditions, the airport operator said.

A statement on the airport's website reads, "The strike commenced at Budapest Airport at 6 a.m. on 10 December 2008 is causing serious difficulties at Budapest Airport. Due to the walk-out of passenger security screeners the passengers can not enter the transit area.

Budapest Airport kindly asks all passengers in possession of a valid airline ticket for today to contact their airlines for further information and guidance."

Budapest Airport handled 8.6 million passengers last year.
