easyJet to Introduce Baggage Charges Following Security Alert

21st August 2006 Following the introduction of new security measures limiting the size of hand baggage, easyJet has announced plans to charge passengers for checking in more than one bag for their flight.

The move, that the airline claimed was being made to try to encourage people to travel light and relieve pressure on check-in staff, will see travellers with more than one bag being charged.

The new charges will apply to bookings made from September 1, and mean that any passenger checking in more than one bag will have to pay £5, if they pre-pay on-line, and £10 if they pay at the airport.

The total weight limit per passenger will remain at 20kg, regardless of the number of bags checked in.
